Making Connections Neighborhood Initiative:
Lower San Antonio Data Support Project

Making Connections is the centerpiece of the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s multi-faceted effort to improve the life chances of vulnerable children by helping to strengthen their families and neighborhoods.  Making Connections began a 3-year demonstration phase to work with neighborhoods in 22 cities to promote programs, activities, and policies that contribute to strong families.  In Oakland, Making Connections is focused on the Lower San Antonio neighborhood.  The primary aim of this effort is to stimulate and support a local movement that engages residents, civic groups, political leaders, grassroots groups, public and private sector leadership, and faith-based organizations in an effort to help transform tough neighborhoods into family-supportive environments.  IURD is providing the GIS-based information and is designing strategies for its dissemination and use.
