Assisting the 7th Street / McClymonds Corridor Neighborhood
Improvement Initiative
The Initiative is a 7-year project emphasizing resident
leadership in the development and implementation of strategies to improve
the community. The goal is to improve the physical, economic, and
human conditions in West Oakland. It also seeks to strengthen the
ability of residents, associations, religious institutions and
organizations to plan and implement community improvement strategies by
increasing coordination, improving access to assistance and training, and
increasing the availability of money to support specific projects.
IURD’s role broadly is to provide relevant research and technical
assistance:
 | Provide Initiative-related project assistance to the
San Francisco Foundation, including collecting data, reporting on
baseline data and indicators, and providing status reports on local
conditions.
|
 | Conduct a number of action/research projects
developed jointly with the Initiative members and tied to
implementation of the Initiative's Community Plan. These entail
fields of expertise such as housing, redevelopment, law, brownfields,
education and social welfare.
