| IURD develops and supports interdisciplinary research and
practical work that helps scholars and students to understand how cities and regions work,
while helping public and private agencies, nations, states, and communities to undertake
more effective policies. As urbanization has rapidly increased around the world and
with it problems of housing, sprawl, transportation, environmental quality, urban poverty
and physical decline, the demand for IURD's work has steadily increased. |
Since its inception, the work of IURD has always been rooted
first and foremost in the social sciences, whether it involves predicting the consequences
of growth policy or the effectiveness of earthquake preparedness. IURD provides a
